Show and Tell: Monster Waves, Milk Fingers, and Other Weird Stuff in the Ocean

October 19, 2020
2:00 PM - 2:45 PM
Event time is displayed in your time zone.

The presenter, who is a sea-going observational physical oceanographer, will show a few simple experiments, some of which can also be done at home. The experiments are concerned with waves, turbulence, and mixing. They illustrate some surprising facts about the ocean, including why there is “dead water” slowing down boats in some regions, and why you cannot tow icebergs to hot and dry areas to get fresh water. Suitable for students age 10 and older. Please note that this session is being run live only, and will not be recorded.
