Trace Earth’s History Through Microfossils in the Core Repository
With over 44 miles of deep-sea sediment cores from every ocean, the Core Repository at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory has been at the forefront of earth science data collection for almost 70 years.
As more cores arrive in the laboratory each year, scientists continue to uncover new information about Earth’s processes, all while providing vital services to the international Earth Science community: key to the Core Repository’s mission is to advance geoscience by providing samples, data, and collection assistance to researchers across the globe.
Under the leadership of curator Nichole Anest, visitors get a chance to examine microfossils and sediment from the world’s oceans and learn about the Earth’s past, viewing evidence for asteroid impacts, climate change, tectonics, and more.
