Geochronology to Document Earth's History

Learn how dating rocks and sediments can help us understand Earth’s history from deep time to recent climate change.

Understanding Earth processes related to hazards and history requires documenting timescales and rates. Noble gas geochronology provides multiple strategies for dating fault histories and precipitation of fluids in Earth's crust as well as tracing sediment sources by dating mineral grains to learn about past ice sheets. This exhibit showcases research conducted in the Argon Geochronology for the Earth Sciences Lab by 2026 summer interns from the Lamont Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) and Barnard Summer Reseach Institute programs.
